What Are Reparations

Reparations, typically in the form of money, is meant to make an injured party whole. The post-Civil War reparations for slavery brought forth by the “radical Republicans” in congress included full political equality and voting rights for freedmen, as well as “forty-acres-and-a-mule” economic compensation. These initiatives failed both in the courts, and in jurisdictions where former confederates (democrats) fought to keep blacks “in their place.”

To learn more about how the first Republicans ended slavery and tried to restore the republic, read A Patriot’s History of the United States. Written by Professors Larry Schweikart and Michael Allen, The Patriot’s History corrects the leftist biases typically taught in schools today.

For example, the Republicans actually had a comprehensive plan for Reconstruction, that included voting rights. Yes, blacks could have had FULL civil rights nearly 100 years before the 1964 Civil Rights Act!

What happened?  Southern Democrats known as Redeemers restored white supremacy to the state governments, intimidated blacks with segregation (“Jim Crow” laws), and squeezed freedmen out of positions of power in the state governments. Reconstruction ended officially with a Redeemer victory in the Compromise of 1877, in which the final Union troops withdrew from the South, leaving blacks unprotected and at the mercy of Southern Democrats. (p. 322)

Today, calls for reparations are another long-standing grift for raising political funds when the DNC needs to restore their relationship with, or obscure their neglect or malfeasance in, the black community. It is almost always in reference to U.S. chattel slavery that the Democrats instituted, perpetuated, and fought to retain during the Civil War and afterward.

In the period of Reconstruction, when Republicans sought to provide adequate reparations to freedmen, Democrats blocked congressional measures, and fought in local communities to prevent land, livestock, and agricultural tools from being used to benefit freedman. They instigated the KKK and other local white supremacist groups to prevent freedmen from working designated lands, and from voting.

Today, reparation legislation is a non-starter, and Democrats know it.  As former pro-football running back Herschel Walker said at a congressional hearing on Wednesday, Feb 17, 2021:

“Reparations, where does the money come from? Does it come from all the other races except the black taxpayers? Who is black? What percentage of black must you be to receive reparations?…Some American ancestors just came to this country 80 years ago, their ancestors wasn’t even here during slavery. Some black immigrants weren’t here during slavery, nor their ancestors. Some states didn’t even have slavery...
“Who is the guilty party? Should we start at the beginning where African Americans sold your African American ancestors into slavery? And to a slave trader who eventually sold African American ancestors to slave owners?”

In response to race grifter Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX), who argued her bill H.R. 40 would put the country “on the path to reparative justice,” Walker said, “We use black power to create white guilt. My approach is biblical: how can I ask my Heavenly Father to forgive me if I can’t forgive my brother?”

As Larry Elder pointed out, both Barack Obama and Kamala Harris descend from slave masters, do would they be required to give or receive a reparation check?

Real Reparation: "Tuskegee Study of Untreated Syphilis in the Negro Male"

The 1932 Tuskegee study initially involved 600 black men – 399 with syphilis, 201 without it. The study was conducted without the benefit of patients’ informed consent or the ability to quit the study. Researchers told them they were being treated for “bad blood,” which described several ailments, including syphilis, anemia, and fatigue. For their cooperation they would receive free medical exams, free meals, and burial insurance.

They never received any proper treatment for their illness. And this 6 month study lasted 40 years! Researchers even prevented local physicians from treating them, even when penicillin became the drug of choice for syphilis in 1947!

An Associated Press article in 1972 resulted in a 1974  $10 million out-of-court settlement to their families. It also required the U.S. government to give lifetime medical benefits and burial services to all living participants that eventually covered wives, widows and offspring. In 1995, the program was expanded to include health as well as medical benefits (see more).

THIS horrible case of medical malfeasance, bureaucracy, and probable racism is also an example of SMART reparation:

Unfortunately, our current cultural conversation is anything but SMART.

Conclusion

Horrible as slavery was, only ~6% of Americans ever owned slaves.  Some of those slave owners were black.

More than FIVE generations have past since America fought its bloodiest war to wipe the shameful institution of slavery from its shores, at the cost of over 600,000 lives, mostly white men.

Since then the United States has struggled with the issue of race. If only Lincoln hadn’t been assassinated. If only the Super Republicans in congress had prevailed in their fight for full equality in 1865.

Civil War was reparations

Also important, Western civilization went through a conversion on slavery that the rest of the planet never went through. The Biblical communities of New England recognized the wickedness of slavery and abolished it years before Britain. Britain and the United States spearheaded the abolitionist movement, and even imposed it as imperialists on other countries throughout the 1800s. The Asian, Arab, and African cultures NEVER had this awakening. And in fact, in many places, slavery still exists today.

Meanwhile, in the United States, which repudiated slavery in the most dramatic way possible, the struggle for the equality and advancement, from education to welfare, has cost over $2 TRILLION already. How much reparation is enough? (And where did all that money go, DNC?)

But the strongest argument against reparations is the fact that there are no living victims or perpetrators left. The government would be forced to take from those who were never “perpetrators” to pay those who were never “victims.”  That is called injustice.

“Only about five percent of white Americans have any sort of generational connection to slavery, which ended 156 years ago. When we paid reparations to people in the past, as when the Japanese received reparations for being put in relocation camps, the money was paid to them — victims themselves — or their legal heirs. Slavery ended 156 years ago; it is just too long ago.”
Larry Elder
Conservative talk radio host

Larry also points out that blacks are a “race of overcomers” who need to leave that leftist plantation.  As his own father warned: “The Democratic Party was always trying to give people “something for nothing,” but when that happens, “you almost always end up getting nothing for something.”

Therefore, if any reparation bill is to go forward, it should to be paid only to the descendants of slaves, directly from the coffers of the DNC and it supporters, along with a permanent dismantling of the party.

To demand any more from anyone else would be like lynching innocent souls all over again.
